2005 Lam Rim Meditation Retreat Pictures added by Webmaster
email
|
Debra Hanus, who completed the 2005 lam rim meditation retreat at Kopan forwarded us some great pictures:
Click here - 2005 Lam Rim retreat pictures
Note from Debra: Everyday since I returned from the Lam Rim I would check this site for new postings hoping to catch glimpses of my new friends. I miss my teachers, my fellow course members, the monks and the incredible atmosphere of Kopan itself. This site is a bridge between my world and that world. Since I had some really incredible photos of people whom I do not know how to contact but feel they would like to see themselves this was my motivation for sending them...

Hello Everybody, I am here to inform you that I have invented a Boardgame on Buddhism titled KARMA CHAKRA. The design concept of the game is based on exploration of Mandala and the Wheel of Life. The game is meant for 2 - 4 players, age 8 and upwards. Language in English. This game could be played by anybody at the learning stage of Buddhism and advanced Sangha groups. The game covers HInayana, Mahayana and Vjarayana concepts. It is a very powerful tool for studies and education of Buddhism. I am from Toronto, Canada. If you would be interested in having the game then please contact me on my email add. I will send more info and picture of the game so that you can get a better idea of the game and if you would like then you can send me your phone number and I can explain the game more clearly. This game is an ideal gift for this holiday season. You won't be disappointed by the depth and great art work of the game. May peace previal!

What do you think - new goals and metrics? added by Greg
|
|
I have a dream that i want to share and get some feedback. I believe the human race has the innate ability to evolve. in short my idea is for the big thinkers to create a 'humanity scale' similar to reporting the crime statistics, but instead reporting the statistics related to the progress of humanity. publish it every day in the news and let people get exicted about transformation. We should have a measurement for what we want to achieve and work towards. Am I crazy or does anyone out there agree?! I love you all. Please let me know what you think. Your prospective servant, Greg. ps: I have not left my email address because i just found this site and would like to better understand the nature of its people. thanks again in hope for all of us....

I moved to Sharbot Lake in March.I coordinated an FPMT study group in Kitchener-Waterloo for four years. I hear that there are people who went to Kopan living in Kingston. Is there a Craig? Who's the monk living over a Monastery in Kingston? I haven't been to Kopan, but I did a month-long retreat with Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 2001.

Hi Lynn, I live in the Kingston area and did the month long retreat in 2001 at Kopan Monastery in Nepal. The Kuluta Centre in Kingston is run by Theckten, a monk who also found his beginnings at Kopan some years ago. There are also others in the area (including Ottawa) who have been to Kopan. The Kuluta centre in Kingston can be found at www.meditateinkingston.org.

Namaste everyone! Just letting you know that a DVD version of the 30 Days to Enlightenment film will be available soon. The DVD will not only include the film itself, but it will also have some extra features including a slideshow of Belgium photographer Dirk Linden's wonderful black and white photographs from Kopan monastery in Nepal, as well as an interview with a former Kopan student turned Buddhist monk who now resides over a monastery in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. More news will be posted as soon as the DVD is ready. The film has also been translated into Mongolian and broadcast in that country but we are having some trouble obtaining the translated version from Mongolia. However, we hope to have copies available for our friends in Mongolia in the future. More news will be posted on the www.Buddhist.ca web site. Hope everyone is doing well! Warm regards, Curtis

The result: a one-hour movie about a month in the life of Curtis and around 200 other participants that will be of interest equally to those who have been there and those who are thinking about going. The magazine captures the power and relevance of the Buddha's teachings through articles and interesting news stories about the Buddhist community. www.Buddhist.ca - for students and friends of Kopan monastery, and anyone who has an interest in Buddhism and meditation. ============================== CONTENTS: ============================== 1.)... Namaste! 2.)... 30 Days to Enlightenment in Mongolia 3.)... Upcoming article in Mandala magazine 4.)... Video and CD to be available at Kopan in Nepal ============================== 1.) Namaste! ============================== Namaste everyone, hope this finds you well. The annual meditation retreat at Kopan Monastery is drawing near and some people are already making their way to Nepal for the start of the course in early November. It's hard to believe that almost three years have passed since I attended the retreat, and yet it also seems like only yesterday when the voices of the monks chanting pujas drifted up to my tent and eased me into sleep. Hardly a day passes when the influence and teachings of Kopan doesn't affect the way I look at, and live my daily life. Best wishes to all who are returning to Kopan this year, and good luck to anyone who is going for their first time. The free message board at www.buddhist.ca is still open for business - drop a line to say hello! ============================== 2.) 30 Days to Enlightenment in Mongolia ============================== Some good news is the '30 Days to Enlightenment' video and soundtrack CD is making it's way across this small globe of ours. It was recently translated into Mongolian and broadcast on a Buddhist television station in the capital city of Mongolia. Shyla Bauer, Assistant Director FPMT Mongolia had some nice words to say about the documentary and it's impact there, scroll down this messageboard for her posted message. There has also been some interest in a French translation of the video. If you are interested, please send a note through the message board at: http://www.buddhist.ca/cgi-bin/newsboard/newsboard.cgi ============================== 3.) Upcoming article in Mandala magazine ============================== Look for an article about the 30 Days to Enlightenment video and soundtrack music CD in the upcoming December issue of Mandala magazine, published by the FPMT. We are excited to reach a larger audience with Mandala's large international subscription base. To subscribe, or to check out past issues, see: http://www.mandalamagazine.org ============================== 4.) Videos and CD's available at Kopan in Nepal ============================== A limited number of videos and CD's will be available at this year's annual retreat at Kopan monastery. Arrangements have been made for a small number of videos and CD's to be brought to Kopan for the retreat. If you're interested in reserving a copy of either (to be picked up at Kopan - no shipping charges!), please let me know as soon as possible. Copies can also still be purchased through the web site: http://www.buddhist.ca/monastery_retreat_video_documentary.html Warm regards to all, Curtis ------------------------------------------------------- http://www.Buddhist.ca Go placidly among the noise and haste. I want to know how much does this video will cost if you do a french translation
15 October 2004
Webmaster comments: -
Hi Melanie, it will depend on the number of copies being ordered, but I think if we can have a minimum of 25 copies reserved then we can keep the price around the same 20-25 dollars per copy. We would also need a volunteer to help with the French translation if anyone wants to help with this.

what a lovely site. i'm looking forward to adding something upon my return but have a rather silly question in trying to prepare to go. it has been many years since i have had to 'rough it' and so i'm quite rusty. are there laundry facilities or do i really have to pack six weeks worth of underwear? thanks for any advice.
10 October 2004
Webmaster comments: -
Hi Mary, No you don't need to pack six weeks of underwear, but you will have to wash them yourself, as well as your own socks. All your other laundry (excluding socks and underwear) will be picked up every few days to be washed. It's a good idea to bring some soap for the handwashing but you can also buy some at the store on the grounds.
